The Tourist Review

I've finally watched The Tourist! Yay me. It was shown here in the Philippines today since foreign films had to give way to the Metro Manila Film Fest (which is totally disgusting, you don't want to know about that). I had to watch this on the first day because when I want to see a movie so bad, I don't miss it on the first day. That's how dedicated I am, especially when the movie involves Angelina Jolie or Johnny Depp. In this case, it involves the two of them which made me really really excited since the beginning this film was announced. If you are all unaware, it was my dream to see Angie and Johnny together in film, and what do you know? It came true!

If you want to know what I thought about the movie, (Don't worry, there are NO SPOILERS here) please continue reading>>

The Tourist is a film that revolves around a man named Frank Tupelo (Depp) who went to Europe, Italy to be exact, to mend a broken heart. While he was on a train, he met an enticing, beautiful, gorgeous (do you like my adjectives? lol) woman, Elise Clifton-Ward (Jolie). Frank had no idea that Elise had chosen him to be a decoy for her lover, Alexander Pearce, who is wanted by the police in over 70 countries. Not only the police believed that Frank was Alexander, but also the mobster whose money were stolen by Pearce.

First of all, this movie isn't a thriller. Believe you me. This is actually a comedy with romance, and action scenes, which is brilliant. Screw the critics, screw the box office. This movie is definitely worth-watching and it won't fail to amuse you. When I was sitting on my comfy chair, watching the movie in the cinema, I was grinning to myself all throughout the film. I know, I must have looked stupid, but thank God the lights were off. Seriously though, this film deserves a recognition and I applaud the Hollywood Foreign Press for giving this film 3 nominations including Best Performance by an Actor and Actress - Musical or Comedy and Best Motion Picture.

Secondly, I love this film because there were no boring or dull scenes. Do you expect any dull scenes that involve Angelina or Johnny? I don't think so. The funny scenes, like I said, kept me grinning and laughing on the edge of my seat. I think Henckel von Donnersmack did a good job on his Hollywood debut film. And when he said he wanted to be the director to bring the hottest actor and actress together in a film, I immediately admired him for that. He and I think alike (lol).

Lastly, this isn't an intellectual film and if you watch it, you'll see that it didn't try to be. Not one bit. This movie is meant to be entertaining and it is! Two beautiful actors in a beautiful city with a great storyline. What else do you need? Nothing.

Hopefully, I'll be able to watch it again some time soon because it was just that good.

Rating for this film: 4.5/5
